We strongly believe in fresh flowers to elevate a space. However, this floral doesn’t always have to come from the florist - especially in a pinch! We love garden to vase floral arrangements as well! Clipping greenery and blooms from your own garden adds the same elevation with maybe a little more sentiment. Here are a few of the plants we keep in our garden to cut throughout the season:
1. Boxwood Hedges - Boxwoods are very versatile. Clipped, they are perfect as filler or stunning on their own. Boxwood is classic, traditional, and always appropriate for any season!
2. Hydrangeas - Hydrangeas are endless in their varieties and blooming seasons. We keep Oak Leaf Hydrangeas, Endless Summer Hydrangeas, and Annabelle hydrangeas in bloom from early spring to late fall. If kept properly, cut hydrangea blooms will last for a couple of weeks in a vase.
3. Tea Roses - Tea roses are easy to grow, have multiple blooms, and come in a variety of colors! Bunched together in a vase or placed in a single bud vase, tea roses make a beautiful impression.
4. Peonies - Peonies are sweet treat in the spring! One of the first plants that bloom in our garden, these flowers are gorgeous cut and displayed in our homes. We have both pink and white varieties that look stunning together or separate.
5. Flowering Tree branches - A last minute trick we’ve used as well is to cut a few flowering branches from a tree that needs a little pruning. Cherry blossoms, crepe myrtles, and even dogwoods can create a interesting and beautiful centerpiece.
There's always opportunity to sow goodness into your home with floral or greenery from your own backyard! Try it out this spring & summer!
